Our new CASTLE Liquid feeders are great for MYRMECIA and all other species and are great for going on holidays as different size reservoirs can be purchased.

They come in 1,2,3, and 5 ml and have the following features:

Bottom drip tray for liquid heat expansion

3 entry points where the larger Ants such as Myrmecia can drink by turning upside down and discouraging sanding on the liquid. Smaller liquid feeders prevent the Myrmecia mouth parts from gain access to the liquids.

4 sizes to choose from.

Note: ensure a small bubble is left in the top of the bottle this will create an easier liquid flow for the Ants. Also when filling ensure the liquid is down to the entrance feeding hole.

Extra Tips:

If your ants are persistent at tying to put sand in the opening, it means they are full, A sure sign of this is they will start putting particles in the base of the feeder and build it up to the liquid outlet, if you have a stubborn colony like this, elevate the Castle onto a small flat rock. If they do persist in sanding remove and replace the feeder as required. The Castle feeder are loved by all myrmecia ,Camponotus, some smaller ants such as Pheidole can be caught in the opening, but this is rare and can occur if the vacuum is not set when filling the unit. (Tip: only put as much in the feeder appropriate to your colony size, as time goes on the liquid will tend to expand and with gravity a small drop will appear at the outlet, this is normal and if the colony is large enough they will consume the treat readily.) Tip 2 when filling your feeder always leave a small amount air in the unit, turn it over with your finger over the hole, shake the fluid down and slide your finger off, this will set the feeder into the correct flow stream for the Ants.
